St. Patrick's Day Homework

St. Patrick was born in Wales (paragraph one), which is now a part of England.

St. Patrick was born in 385.  The first century is 0 - 99, the second 100 - 199, the third 200 - 299, and the fourth 300 - 399.  Therefore, he was born in the fourth century.

Many students asked why people wear green on St. Patrick's day.  There is no easy answer.  St. Patrick's color was blue, but he was famous for the shamrock, which was green.  Also, Ireland is very green and is sometimes called The Emerald (green) Isle (island).  Finally, green became the color which was used by an Irish political movement in the late 1700s when many Irish wanted to be free from the control of England.
